"JUST TO LET YOU KNOW THE GUITAR IS HERE, AND IT`S REALLY NICE. I`M SEEING MARK ( KNOPFLER ) TODAY SO WILL HAVE COMMENTS FOR YOU TOMORROW. THE SOUND OF THE GUITAR IS ON FIRST IMPRESSIONS VERY GOOD. I MISS A VOLUME AND TONE KNOB AND THE ONLY VERY MINOR COMMENT I HAVE IS THAT THE NECK IS A LITTLE FLAT ( ie.in terms of contour of the fretboard ) BUT THIS IN NO WAY DETRACTS FROM THE ENJOYMENT. I GUESS THE TUNING IS UP TO THE PLAYER IF G# IS NOT GOOD ."
(In Guy Fletchers words:) “I'm back at home from an evening with MK. He had a good play with the G# and thought it was excellent, especially the resonance and overall feel and build quality of the intrument.“
MARK EVEN HAD SOME THOUGHTS ON HOW IT COULD BE IMPROVED ( in Øivin Fjelds words ):
IT IS QUITE OVERWHELMING HAVING SUGGESTIONS FROM A GUITARIST OF HIS CALIBER ON HOW TO IMPROVE MY DESIGN ( THANK YOU VERY MUCH , MARK KNOPFLER ).
One suggestion was to have a radiused fretboard , another one was to increase the headstock angle to improve the resonance of the neck ; he said a good guideline is the angle of the head on a Les Paul. Both Mark and Guy agreed a volume knob would be good .
As I later responded , these are great suggestions – the volume knob is already on place at the production model. When it comes to an increased headstock-angle and radiused fretboard it`s a question of production costs. The future will show if costumers are willing to pay a bit more to have these improvements . I WOULD , HOWEVER , BE MORE THAN PLEASED TO MAKE A MARK KNOPFLER SIGNATURE MODEL INCLUDING THESE FEATURES, SHOULD THAT BE POSSIBLE !!
